Another UPDF activist arrested

A MEMBER of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) has been reportedly arrested in Belaichari under Rangamati district.

The army from Belaichari zone arrested Gautam Chakma, 20, son of Nagojya Chakma of village Arachari, Belaichari, from Sakkarachari at 11am today, UPDF sources have said.

Mr. Chakma is an active member of the UPDF. ‘He went to Sakkrachari yesterday to put up banners and festoons on the occasion of the 13th founding anniversary of the party (UPDF), and the army arrested him while he was on his way back home today.’ they added.

No further details of his arrest are available. UPDF has condemned the arrest and urged the government to stop repression of its members and supporters.
