Without mentioning the name of the victim, the daily said the victim went to Lama bazaar on Thursday, 12 April, along with her husband to do shopping.

The Amar Desh, another national Bangla daily, identified the victim’s husband as Nazmul Islam of Brickfield area of Gozalia Union.

As Nazmul was having his haircut at Babul Hairdresser Saloon, his wife complained of feeling unwell in the scorching summer heat.

Babul Sharma, owner of the saloon, suggested that she should take some rest in a room of Hotel Prizon situated in the same building.

When she, in good faith, went to take rest at a room of the hotel on the second floor, Babul raped her and then locked her from outside.

After the incident became public, the police arrested Babul and produced him before a court.

The court refused to grant bail and sent him to jail.
