A JUMMA teenage girl was reportedly kidnapped in Kaokhali
in Rangamati district on Tuesday, Prothom Alo, a Bengali national daily, has
reported today.
The 14-year old girl was on her way back home from Boisabi
water festival in Betbunia on Tuesday when Md. Solaiman, a Bengali youth,
bundled her into an auto-rickshaw and then took her to Ranirhat Bazaar in
Rangunia, the girl’s uncle was quoted by the daily as saying.
“And at Ranirhat she was put on a motorbike behind Md. Ziaul
Haq who took her to an unknown destination.” the paper added.
A case was filed with the police in Kaokhali, but the victim
was not rescued till yesterday, Friday, and the accused remain at large.
The OC of Kaokhali, Shyamol Kanti Barua, admitted that a
case had been filed in connection with the incident.
But he termed the whole incident as “mysterious”.
Another source said the incident had taken place on Tuesday,
17 April.
It identified the victim as Paimuching Marma, 12, daughter
of Ushaila Marma of village Bortoli under Kalampati Union in Kaokhali.
But she lived with her uncle Suila Mong Marma at Kaokhali
Sadar (sub-district headquarters), the source further said.
