MEMBERS of the Bangladesh
Army conducted house searches in the village
of Gangaram Doar in
Sajek under Baghaichari Upazila of Rangamati district, locals said. However, no
arrest was made.
The incident took place on 2 May. According to villagers, a
group of soldiers led by a captain from Baghaihat zone raided Gangaram Doar and
searched the houses of Joti Lal Chakma, 54, son of late Golok Chan Chakma and
Milon Chakma (35) son of Shishir Chakma.
The former is the Karbari (chief) of Gangaram Doar village.
Milon Chakma’s wife Rita Chakma told chtnews.com: “On that day, two
vehicles’ load of troops pulled up near the passengers’ shed. Later they
encircled our house.”
“At one point, the commander of the group asked my husband
whether he would be allowed to enter the house. When my husband gave him
permission, he entered the house and searched the inside.” she continued.
She further said that the soldiers had also interrogated two
youths in their house about their identity.
As nothing incriminating was found during the searches, the
soldiers returned to their camp.
