THE ILLEGAL Bengali settlers have grabbed approximately 10 acres of land belonging to a Jumma in Pilabhanga village under Navanga Mouza No. 237, Patachara Union in Ramgarh Upazila of Khagrachari distrct, villagers and other sources alleged.

Since last week, the settlers have been building houses on lands belonging to Purno Chandra Chakma, 80, son of late Mayur Dhwaj Chakma.

The BGB (Border Guards Bangladesh) is providing full protection to the settlers.

“The settlers are building houses under BGB protection. The BGB members have surrounded the whole area and no Jumma is being allowed to go there.” one villager told chtnews.com.

‘We have heard that 45 Bengali families will be settled here.’ he added.

There is a sign of growing discontent among the Jumma villagers over the illegal grabbing of their land.
‘We can’t accept it (the illegal land grabbing); we must protest this gross injustice.’ another villager said.
