UPDF activist arrested in Dighinala

AN ACTIVIST of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) has been arrested by police in Dighinala, Khagrachari district, UPDF and other sources have said.

Jana Priya Chakma, 36, an organizer of UPDF’s Panchari unit, was arrested at around 3pm today from Thana Bazaar in Dighinala.

He was on his way to Kamukkochara village from his home in Divipara under Babuchara Union to attend to some personal business.

Mr. Chakma quit Jana Samhati Samiti (Santu faction) and joined UPDF in 2008.

UPDF has condemned the arrest and demanded his immediate and unconditional release.

The party will stage demonstrations in Dighinala and elsewhere protesting his arrest.
