DYF member wounded in terrorist attack

News No. 49/2012, Wednesday, July 11, 2012

ARMED men loyal to Santu Larma, chairman of the CHT Regional Council, shot and wounded a member of the Democratic Youth Forum at Boroitali, Pakujyachari, about 16 kilometers north of Khagrachari district headquarters.

The incident took place at about 8:45am today when two people came on a motorbike and shot him at point blank.

The victim has been identified as Nitu Chakma(Nidukko) alias Milon, 20, son of Priti Moy Chakma of village Khiang Ghat, Mahalchari.

The bullet hit the left side of his chest, and he was rushed to Khagrachari hospital in a critical condition. However, the doctors referred him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

According to eyewitness accounts, two hired goons of Santu Larma went to Boroitali from Khagrachari on a motorbike and looked for UPDF men at Kirti Moy Chakma’s tea shop, saying that they had to talk business with UPDF.

The unsuspecting people told him to go to Dashrath Chakma’s house where Milon was staying.

The JSS men went there and found him. When they said they needed to discuss matters in private, Milon took them to the courtyard, believing that they wanted to talk secrets.

As they sat in the courtyard, talking, one of the thugs took out what looked like a pistol and shot him at point blank.

The terrorists then ran away to the east.

Natun Kumar Chakma, president of Democratic Youth Forum, condemned the attack and urged people to put up a stiff resistance against terrorist activities of Santu Larma.

He termed Santu Larma a Dalal or collaborator of the government and said his loyalists have held the Jumma people hostage to senseless acts of violence.
