Santu group kidnaps two in Baghaichari

News No. 55/2012, Monday, July 23, 2012

AN ARMED gang loyal to Santu Larma, chief of one faction of the Jana Samhati Samiti, abducted two villagers in Baghaichari under Rangamati district, sources said.

According to sources, on Sunday night (22 July), a group of armed men led by Barun Chakma and Bishtar Chakam raided Lallyaghona village and kidnapped Meki Chakma, 20, son of Nishi Kumar Chakma and Tapan Chakma, 20, son of Mayakka Chakma.
‘The Santu men came in a boat from Shijok and took Meki and Tapan away.’ one villager told chtnews.com on condition that his named will not be mentioned.

He, however, could not say why they had been abducted.

Sama Shanti Chakma, organizer of UPDF Baghaichari unit, has condemned the incident as ‘a purely terrorist action against innocent villagers’ and urged all to resist the Santu group to save the Jumma people.
