Bandarban DC urges public vigilance against Islamist militancy

THE Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban, K. M. Tariqul Islam, has said activities of the (Islamist) militants have increased recently in the district, reports chtnews24.com.

‘The militants have established hideouts in inaccessible mountainous areas of Thanchi and Alikadam in Bandarban district to evade the watchful eye of the law enforcing agencies and have been organizing training in militancy and other activities.’ he said.

The DC also said that the Rohinga people were crossing into Bangladesh through Bandraban border and sneaking into different hilly areas of Bandarban.

He directed the authorities concerned to take actions to eliminate militant activities and plug Rohinga infiltration.

He said this while speaking at a monthly review meeting on the law and order situation of the district held at the conference hall of his office.

The meeting was also attended by Superintendent of police Md. Qamrul Ahsan, Additional District Magistrate Israt Zaman, Bandarban Sader Upazila chairman Abdul Quddus, Bandarban mayor Javed Reza, Bandarban District Council member Kazi Md. Mojibur Rahman, Lama Upazila chairman Md. Ismail, Thanchi Upazila Executive Officer Sheikh Saleh Ahemmed, Organizational Secretary Laxmipada Das, representatives from the army and BGB, other government officials, elected representatives and local elites.
