Fresh attack in Rangamati

News No. 98/2012, Sunday, September 23, 2012

THERE have been reports of fresh attacks on Jumma people in Rangamati while section 144 prohibiting large gatherings is still in force.

Two Jummas have been injured at Kalindipur at about 11:15am when the Bengalis pelted them with stones.

Another has been reportedly beaten by some Bengali youths near Rangamati Sadar hospital and is being treated. Their names could not be known.

Tensions are running high, with Jummas doubting about neutrality of the law enforcing agencies.

Army has been deployed to Naniachar, Kudukchari and Kaokhali, and no protest meetings are being allowed.

Shushovan Dewan under intensive care
Dr Shushovan Dewan, who was critically injured yesterday, has been placed under intensive care at a city clinic in Chittagong.

He sustained serious injuries in the head and got his hand fractured. He might lose the sight in one eye, his relatives said.

Earlier Mr Dewan was to be shifted to Dhaka for better treatment; however the decision was changed at the last moment.

Reporting time: 1:30pm.
