A
12-YEAR old Jumma girl was raped in Jurachari under Rangamati district on
Friday night (16 November), reports Prothom Alo.
Citing
the police and the victim’s family sources, the daily said ‘It was the first
day of the Kathin Chibor Dana programme held at Subolong Branch of Bana Vihara
(Buddhist temple). At around 10pm,
the girl, along with her friends, was on her way to participate in the
programme when a group of drunkard youth dragged her into the jungle and raped
her.’
As
the news of the incident became known, the local people rescued her in critical
condition.
The
victim’s father, Bhagyo Dhan Chakma, filed a case under Women and Child
Repression Prevention Act against six persons.
They
are Amio Chakma, 23, Roy Chakma, 23, Promod Chakma, 18, Sukhi Roy Chakma, 23,
Batul Chakma, 18 and Rigen Chakma, 25 – all from Balukhali village in
Jurachari.
Of
them, Roy Chakma and Rigen Chakma are members of the student wing of the Jana
Samhati Samiti (Santu group).
Rigen
Chakma’s father, Niro Laksha Chakma, is an active member of the Santu group.
The
victim is a resident of Balukhali village and a fifth grade student of a
government primary school.
The
paper quoted Md. Yusuf Siddiq, Officer in-charge of Jurachari police station,
as saying: ‘None of the accused could be arrested. However we are trying to arrest
them.’
