ONE of the three villagers kidnapped by an armed gang loyal to Santu Larma in Dighinala has been confirmed dead, while the two others have been set free.

The Santu loyalists confirmed to local elders that they had killed Zishan Chakma, 29, after he was kidnapped last night from his home in the village of Jarulchari Doar.

Two other victims – Shanti Priya Chakma, 32, and Choga Chakma, 42, from Lambachara village – were released at 2:30pm following negotiations with the village elders.

After the incident, local Union council members – Tuhit Chakma, Sadhan Moni Chakma and Sushil Bikash Chakma – were able to make contact with the kidnappers, who agreed to release Shanti Priya and Choga Chakma without condition, but said they would return Zishan Chakma’s body only if the killing was not reported to the local administration.

It was not learnt whether a final deal was reached over the issue, but Zishan’s body had not been returned till the filing of this report at 6:30pm.
