Five people, including two school teachers, have been kidnapped by military-backed Borkha Party in Bormachari under Laxmichari Upazila in Khagrachari district.

A group of 20 Borkha Party men led by Jongi Chakma, a notorious terrorist and a member of the Santu group, abducted them between 11pm Friday night and 4am today.

The abductees have been identified as Gouranga Chakma, 45, son of Surjo Sen Chakma of village Reserve para; Suresh Chakma, 30, son of Rabindra Chakma of village Bakchari; Shyamol Joti Chakma, 40, son of Mon Chandra Chakma of village Naw Kabachara; Alachey Marma, 40, son of Ulapru Marma; and Binod Munda, 50, of village Kudukchari Bazaar.

Of them, Shyamol Joti Chakma and Binod Munda are engaged in teaching profession – the former is a teacher of Bormachari Junior High School, while the latter of Kudukchari Primary School.

Binod Muna is also a member of the central committee of the Jatisotta Mukti Sangram Parishad (Nationality Liberation Movement Council).

According to the villagers, the miscreants raided several villages in Bormachari Union on Friday night. They first kidnapped Gouranga Chakma from Reserve para at 11pm and then took Suresh Chakma from Bakchari and Shyamol Joti Chakma from Naw Kabachara. At 4am today, the terrorists snatched Binod Munda from his home.

The Borkha terrorists have taken shelter in Sultannya Bill area in Khiram under Fatikchari, a Bengali populated area outside the border of Chittagong Hill Tracts, and make forages into Bormachari area from there.

Before taking shelter in Khiram, they had made a den near Laxmichari army camp, but were ousted by people’s resistance.
