THE
army on Tuesday arrested two leaders of the Hill Students Council
(PCP), a front organization of the UPDF, from a protest rally in
Matiranga in Khagrachari district. However, both of them were released later.
The
Hill Students Council leaders said they had organised a rally and a
procession in Matiranga bazar to protest at an attack on Jumma villagers
in Lama by illegal Bengali settlers that left several injured.
The protest demonstration was organized by Matiranga unit of the Hill Students’ Council.
When
they were holding a rally at the hospital road area after a protest
march, a group of army personnel led by Captain Wahiullah from Matiranga
zone went up to them and disrupted the rally by snatching the banner
from the PCP activists.
The
soldiers also arrested Shubho Chakma, vice president of the PCP
Matiranga Upazila unit and Probir Tripura, its general secretary, when
they protested the army’s behaviour.
They were taken to Matiranga zone and subjected to psychological torture.
However, the army released them a few hours later.
