Jumma refugee leader kidnapped by Santu group in Panchari

A RETURNEE Jumma refugee leader has been kidnapped by an armed gang loyal to Santu Larma from Modhu Mongol Para village of Pujgang in Panchari Upazila.

According to sources, a group of armed men, numbering about 10 – 12, raided the village of Modhu Mongol Para at 11pm on Monday, 16 June and abducted Nanda Joy Chakma, 35, son of Joy Chandra Chakma, from his home.

Mr Chakma is the project chairman of returnee Jumma refugees in Chengi Union.

The kidnappers left a mobile number 01820747484 for his family members to contact them.

The Santu group men did not say why they were taking him. However, the villagers are of the view that he was kidnapped for ransom.
