THE unidentified gunmen on Friday fired shots at Samar Bikash Chakma, Chairman of Logang Union Parishad, in Panchari Upazila.
But he survived the assassination attempt as the bullets missed their target.
The incident occurred on Friday night near Panchari police station when Mr Chakma was on his way back home from Panchari bazaar on a motorbike.
He barely crossed Panchari police station and reached in front of Panchari Bazaar High School, then the miscreants, who were lying in wait, fired on him.
Samar Bikash Chakma confirmed the incident to chtnews.com, saying: “I was returning home from Panchari bazar on a motorbike. It was 9pm. As soon as I reached in front of Bazar High School, the terrorists fired shots at me. I accelerated the speed of the bike, and the bullets missed me.”
He said he could not recognize any of his attackers because of darkness in that part of the area, but suspects that the Bengali settlers might be involved.
He said he had informed the police about the incident.
