THE Bangladesh
co-ordinator of the Chittagong Hill Tracts International Commission, Hana Shams
Ahmed, and another woman were reportedly attacked in Bandarban by Sama Odhikar
Andolon, an ultra-communal organization of the Bengali settlers in the CHT.
Hana Shams told the
Prothom Alo, a widely circulated Bengali daily, that she and her friend were in
Bandarban on a personal visit.
“They reached
Bandarban in the morning on Monday and visited a few places in the town. Then
in the evening they went to see the waterfall on Bandarban – Chimbuk road.” the
paper quoted Hana as saying.
According to the
daily, while on their way back to the town a group of 7-8 people stopped the
Mohendra taxi cab carrying them near a holiday resort, beat them and tried to
pull them down.
The police said no one
had yet made any complaint to them about the attack, but that they were making
inquiry about it, the daily added.
After the attack, Hana
Shams and her friend canceled their scheduled journey to Dhaka by a night
coach.
