AT least eleven Jummas
were injured in a clash between the supporters of two clubs during a football
match in Burighat Union on Thursday, 11 September.
According to sources, the
incident occurred when the final match between Sapmara club and Burighat bazaar
club was underway at Hatimara area in Naniachar Upazila.
At one stage, the settlers became
rowdy and agitated when the Sapmara club scored a foul against Burighat bazaar
club. They attacked the referee, Polen Chakma, injuring him seriously.
In no time, this led to a
communal clash between Bengali settlers and the Jummas present at the match of the
football tournament organized by Hatimara Shapla Club.
Later, army and police appeared
at the scene and brought the situation under control.
The clash left 11 Jummas and an
unspecified number of Bengali settlers injured. Some of them have been
identified as Sumon Chakma, Polen Chakma, Bombo Chakma, Naga Chakma, Karuna Moy
Chakma and Jopesh Chakma.
They were admitted to Naniachar Health Complex.
