News No. 98/2014, Sunday, October 19, 2014

MEMBERS of the military-backed Borkha Party tortured three villagers, including the head of a village, in Tin-tehori under Manikchari Upazila in Khagrachari district on Saturday night.

According to sources, around 11:40pm, on Saturday night, six members of the notorious Bhorkha Party, also patronized by Santu Group, raided Dhebachari village in Tin-tehori area and snatched Kong Hla Aung Marma, 52, the head of the village, and Dhunkyo Jai Marma, 20, another villager at gun point.

The armed men, led by Maya Dhan Chakma and Nakul Tripura, also raided the house of Mrasau Marma, but as they did not find him, they kicked his wife, Nionma Marma, to vent their ire.

The Borkha men took the both to a road between two villages – Debatoli and Kumari, beat them badly and then left them there.

Later, Dhunkyo Jai somehow returned to the village and informed the villagers about the incident.

On his information, the villagers rescued Kong Hla Aung Marma and admitted him to Manikchari Health Complex in critical condition.
