THE army searched a
Buddhist temple in the village of Kalapani under Patachara
Union No. 2 of Ramgarh Upazila, Khagrachari district on Thursday.
According to sources,
three pick-up loads of army personnel led by Major Ekhtiar from Sindukchari
zone raided the village at noon to search for what they termed
‘terrorists’.
‘The soldiers first
surrounded a “Jadi” (stupa), which was still under construction, and then
entered it with their shoes on, defying norms practiced in Buddhist temples all
over the CHT.’ an eyewitness told chtnews.com on
condition of anonymity.
Later, the army men
entered the main temple with their rifles pointed and, again, with their shoes
on, but with permission from the temple authority, he added.
They searched every
corner of the temple before returning to their camp after they found nothing
incriminating.
