Ex-UPDF activist kidnapped from Chittagong

ARUN CHAKMA, an ex-member of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF), was kidnapped from Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) area on Tuesday night, his wife said in a complaint to the police.

The 37-year old was kidnapped by Santu Larma loyalists, who misrepresented themselves as members of the Detective Branch of the police, from Ambia Bhaban on Barrister College road in Bandar, Chittagong.

‘He has remained missing since then’, his wife Binita Chakma told chtnews.com.

‘It was about midnight when about five JSS (Santu group) activists came to our house. They introduced themselves as DB police and took away my husband, saying they needed to question him, but we somehow could recognize some of them.’ shed added.

Arun Chakma son of Boiragya Chakma hails from Shib Mondir area in Khagrachari and was a member of the UPDF, but he left the party in 2003.

Thereafter, he worked with the Fire Service Department in Chittagong.


According to an unconfirmed report, a Santu Group leader has confessed that his party members have abducted him on suspicion of still being a member of the UPDF.
