A JUMMA woman was raped at
Pankhaia Para in Khagrachari town on Wednesday, 28 January.
The
local residents caught Dev Bikash Barua, 40, the rapist, and handed him over to
the police.
The
victim, a 20 years old woman from Marma community, is a house maid, working at
retried army personnel Hlathoai Chowdhury's residence in Pankhaia Para.
Sort
of a mentally disabled person, she originally hails from Nakrai Para, Guimara.
The
rapist, Dev Bikash Barua, has a tailoring shop at Pankhaia Para and lives in a
rented house at Battalion Area.
He
is originally from Mohalchari and was discharged from the Bangladesh Army.
According
to local residents, on the day of incident Dev Bikash Barua went to fetch
drinking water from the tube well of Hlathoai Chwodhury, as he usually did
every day.
Mr.
Chowdhury and his wife were not at home at the time.
"Dev
asked the victim to open the gate of the house and when she opened it, Dev pressed
her mouth with his hands, forced her inside a bathroom and then raped
her," a resident who had the opportunity to speak to the victim told
chtnews.com.
She
added that Dev had made the victim to take bath after raping her to destroy any
evidence of rape.
After
the incident a relative of Hlathoai Chowdhury went to his house and found her
ill.
When
asked about what made her sick, the victim narrated the whole incident to her.
Based
on her information, local residents caught Dev Bikash Borua before handing him
over to the police.
The
victim was admitted to Khagrachari Hospital.
A
case has been filed with Khagrachari police station in connection with the
