Seven houses searched, two villagers tortured during army operation in Ramgarh

SEVEN houses were searched and two Jumma villagers tortured during the second day of military operation in Ramgrah yesterday.

According to local sources, a group of army personnel from Sindukchari zone raided Hachuk Para and Kumari Para at 1pm as part of a massive military operation now undergoing in Matiranga, Manikchari, Ramgarh and Laxmichari Upazilas involving several hundred soldiers.

The army men tortured two Jummas – Shanta Tripura, 42, who was grazing his cows in Kumari Para and Ajit Tripura, 16, a class nine student of Nakapa Junior High School in Hachuk Para.

Later the soldiers searched seven houses in the two villages for what they said were illegal firearms.

The houses searched belong to Purna Kumar Tripura, 50, son of late Kunja Tripura; Bhota Tripura, 46, son of late Puchrai Tripura; Chandra Kumar Tripura, 52, son of late Kamalaram Tripura; Roshi Kumar Tripura, 26, son of late Lazarai Tripura and Sumon Tripura, 18, son of Roti Kumar Tripura – all of Hachuk Para village and Ramani Kumar Tripura, 40, son of Kamalarai Tripura and Nanda Bhushan Tripura, 25, son of late Poti Rai Tripura of Kumari Para.

A deep sense of fear and anxiety is prevailing among the Jumma inhabitants because of the ongoing military operation.
