One wounded in settler attack in Mahalchari

A JUMMA villager has been wounded in a settler attack in Maischari of Mahalchari Upazila, according to sources.

A group of settlers carried out the attack at 10am today when Sneha Kumar Chakma, a former member of Maischari Union Council, and other villagers cutting down trees in his own grove in Pagojya-chari Bhitor Para (also known as South Joysen Para).

The attack left Basanta Chakma, 30, son of Noaram Chakma seriously wounded.

He has been admitted to Mahalchari Health Complex with head injuries, eyewitnesses said.

The Bengali settlers from Joysen Para also beat up two other Jummas -- Ajit Chakma son of Gopal Krishna Chakma and Prem Ranjan Chakma son of Rajani Kumar Chakma.

Some of the attackers have been identified as Md. Salam son of Md. Sohrab and his son Md. Enamul, Md. Jahangir Alam son of Mujibul Haq and his two brothers, Md. Alamgir and Md. Zahedul Alsm.

After being informed of the incident, the police rushed to the place of occurrence.
