THE Democratic Youth
Forum leader, Shubho Chak, and two others were injured when a group of
miscreants let loose by land grabbers attacked them today in Sonaichari under
Nakyongchari Upazila in the southern CHT district of Bandarban, a press release
issued by UPDF and other sources said.
The attack took place at
11:30am today, Saturday, when DYF leaders Shubho Chak and Rupan Marma,
accompanied by three local supporters, went to Namarpara village to attend a
meeting with the villagers.
The injured also include
Sing Aungjai Karbari, chief of Dhuia Baper Para village in Bishari Union, and
Mong Megyo Marma, a resident of Aziz Nagar.
While the former’s
condition has been stated to be critical, the later sustained injuries to his
head.
According to the UPDF
press release, Shubho Chak, a member of the DYF central committee and vice
president of DYF Chittagong city unit, and Rupan Marma, also a member of the
DYF central committee, were on a visit to Nakyongchari to hold meetings with
local people to highlight the importance of mass resistance to land grabbing in
the area.
‘They reached
Nakyongchari from Chittagong yesterday and began their work today, but they
came under attack when they went to a village in Sonaichari,’ DYF president
Mikel Chakma told chtnews.com.
‘Some miscreants let
loose by local land thieves are behind the attack,’ he added and demanded that
those responsible be brought to justice.
