News No. 08/2016: Saturday, January 16, 2016

THE Democratic Youth Forum leader, Shubho Chak, and two others were injured when a group of miscreants let loose by land grabbers attacked them today in Sonaichari under Nakyongchari Upazila in the southern CHT district of Bandarban, a press release issued by UPDF and other sources said.

The attack took place at 11:30am today, Saturday, when DYF leaders Shubho Chak and Rupan Marma, accompanied by three local supporters, went to Namarpara village to attend a meeting with the villagers.

The injured also include Sing Aungjai Karbari, chief of Dhuia Baper Para village in Bishari Union, and Mong Megyo Marma, a resident of Aziz Nagar.

While the former’s condition has been stated to be critical, the later sustained injuries to his head.

According to the UPDF press release, Shubho Chak, a member of the DYF central committee and vice president of DYF Chittagong city unit, and Rupan Marma, also a member of the DYF central committee, were on a visit to Nakyongchari to hold meetings with local people to highlight the importance of mass resistance to land grabbing in the area.

‘They reached Nakyongchari from Chittagong yesterday and began their work today, but they came under attack when they went to a village in Sonaichari,’ DYF president Mikel Chakma told chtnews.com.

‘Some miscreants let loose by local land thieves are behind the attack,’ he added and demanded that those responsible be brought to justice.
