A TEENAGE Marma girl was
subjected to an attempted rape on Friday in Sapru Karbari Para under Maischari
Union in Mahalchari Upazila.
The would-be rapist, Saidur
Rahman (22), has been taken into police custody, according to sources.
The victim, a student of class
ten, was cooking food at their home alone, with her parent busy working in
their paddy field, when Saidur, son of Badsha Mian from Joysen Para, entered
their house and attempted to rape her.
The girl fought back and was able
to save herself.
She then ran to their neighbours
and informed them about what had happened to her, and they caught Saidur.
An hour later local Bengali
elders, accompanied by a contingent of police personnel, rushed there to settle
the matter through negotiation. They were followed by a group of army personnel
who made sure that Saidur was handed over to the police.
The victim’s father said he would
file a case against Saidur in connection with the incident.
