Seven Jumma tortured in Sajek

THE army reportedly tortured seven Jumma villagers in Sajek under Rangamati district on Tuesday night.

The Jummas were returning from Dighinala Health Complex on four motorbikes after treating a female patient when the army led by Warrant Officer Anwar from Tiger Tila camp stopped them at Nandaram at 11 pm.

The soldiers beat them up without asking any question and without any apparent reason.

They also held up Udayan Chakma, member of Ward No. 6 of Sajek Union Council, but did not beat him.

The tortured Jummas included 1. Priya Chakma, 25, village Dipu-para, Machalong; 2. Natunjoy Chakma, 22, village Pukurpar; 3. Paranya Chakma, 24, village Dipu-para; 4. Nipun Chakma, 23, village Egojyachari; 5. Ratan Chakma, 30, village Egojyachari; 6. Alomoy Chakma, 28, village Egojyachari; 7. Putul Chakma, 35, owner of a drug shop at Ujo bazar.

A Bengali trader, Md. Jashim, from Machalong bazar was along with them, but the army spared him.
