THE army arrested two Jumma villagers during a predawn raid in Gorukata village in Ramgarh, Khagrachari district, according to sources.

Troops led by Warrant Officer from Batnatoli army camp in Manikchari carried out the raid in the small hours of Saturday, 23 July.

They surrounded the house of Rangila Chakma, 60, and then entered and searched it thoroughly.

The soldiers also beat up her 15-year-old daughter Anil Mala Chakma without any reason and took her son Sunil Chakma, 18, along with them.

However he was released after taking him a few distances from the house.

Thereafter at 3 a.m. the army personnel raided her neighbour Sajik Chakma’s, 50, house and took him and his son Padma Senn Chakma, 18, away after placing homemade guns in their hands.

According to eyewitnesses, the army did not find these guns during the searches but they themselves had carried along with them.
