News No. 29/2017: Thursday, December 07, 2017
THE ARMY on
Thursday threatened seven Jumma families to dismantle their homes built on
about 25 acres of land in Korollyachari village under Sajek Union in Rangamati
district.
The Jummas
built the homes after the army had abandoned their camp and withdrawn a few
years ago.
According to
sources, a group of army personnel led by Md. Seraj from Sudugichara camp under
Baghaihat zone went to Korollyachari village on Thursday morning and ordered
the Jummas to leave the area.
However, the
Jummas said the land the army is claiming now was used as a jum field before
the construction of the camp and therefore it belong to them.
‘It is our
community-owned land where we practiced jum cultivation and we reclaimed it
after the army vacated their camp built illegally,’ Dhigi Kumar Chakma, a
member of the seven victim families, told chtnews.com.
