House-to-house search in Harinath Para

 THE ARMY on Thursday conducted a house-to-house search in Talukder Para (Barengya Chara) under greater Harinath Para village in Khagrachari district.

Two members of the Jargo Party, also known as Nobyo Mukhosh Bahini, accompanied the army.

According to sources, a group of army personnel from Khagrachari Sadar zone and Jongoli Tila base camp carried out the search at 4 p.m. on December 14.

Five of those subjected to the search have been identified: Dharma Kumar Talukder (72), the Karbari or head of the village Talukder Para, Somi Ranjan Chakma (55), Kandori Chakma, a widow, Modhu Sudon Chakma (25) and Arun Chakma (35).

The soldiers interrogated the villagers about the whereabouts of the UPDF activists and asked, ‘Who offer them (UPDF activists) food and shelter?’

The army men left the village after the search, but came back again at 6 p.m. in three pick-up vans, accompanied this time by Tujim Chakma, a member of the Jargo Party vigilante group and fired blank shots to create fear among the residents.
