Jumma woman attacked over land dispute

News No. 38/2018 : April 2, 2018, Monday

A JUMMA woman named Dhonibi Chakma has been admitted to Matiranga Sadar Hospital with serious injuries after she was attacked by a Bengali settler over a land dispute in Guimara, Khagrachari district on Sunday.

The incident occurred at 8 am when Md. Iqbal son of late Dudu Mian from Choto Kalapani went the Dhonobi Chakma’s home in Pilabhanga village and beat her up.

Later the villagers rescued her and admitted to hospital.

The 35-year-old victim is not undergoing treatment at Ward No. 01 at Matiranga Sadar Hospital.

Couple of month ago, Iqbal had carried out a similar attack on her husband Jubolal Chakma for refusing to vacate his land.

Jubolal Chakma resisted the attack and the police, rather than taking action against the assaulter, arrested him.

He has been languishing in Khagrachari jail since then.

Iqbal has been trying to oust Jubolal Chakma from a piece of land, claiming it to be his own, although Jubolal and his family have been living there for the last fifteen years.

However Iqbal has so far failed to present any documents to support his claim.
