The Bangladesh Army personnel conducted a search
operation in the homes of Nine villagers in Dhonuddhor Karbari Para, located
in Nittyogan area, Ward No. 1 of Dighinala Union (No. 4), in Dighinala Upazila
of Khagrachari district.
According to local sources, around 1:30 a.m. on Monday
night (November 10), a team of over 30 army personnel from the Babuchara
sub-zone, led by Second Lieutenant Md. Russel, raided the Dhonuddhor Karbari
Para area of Nittyogan in Dighinala Union. During the operation, soldiers
reportedly conducted intrusive searches in at least eight villagers’ homes.
It is alleged that Md. Russel, who led the raid, was
involved in the killing of UPDF organizer Nabayan Chakma Milan.
The villagers whose houses were searched are:
1. Kaladhan Chakma
2. Lakkhidhan Chakma
3. Samar Jyoti Chakma, son of Kejendra Chakma
4. Shantimoy Chakma, son of Batya Chakma
5. Chigona Chakma, son of Prabhab Chandra Chakma
6. Monu Chakma, son of Batya Chakma
7. Binoy Jyoti Chakma (37), son of Jahaj Chandra
Chakma
8. Kalo Chakma (40), son of Jahaj Chandra Chakma
9. Sumangal Chakma (53), son of Pratul Chandra Chakma
During the searches, soldiers reportedly called out
the name of a UPDF member and searched for him specifically. They allegedly
ransacked belongings in every house, damaging household items and even
students’ belongings and school bags.
Victim Sumangal Chakma stated that after he opened his
door, the soldiers entered his home at gunpoint and demanded to know where the
“terrorist” was.
Additionally, the soldiers walked through a paddy
field belonging to a man named Chijimuni Chakma, causing damage to harvested
rice that had been laid out to dry, according to the field’s owner.
