The Bangladesh Army personnel carried out what
locals described as a harassing search at the homes of five villagers in the
Bongoltoli area of Baghaichari upazila, Rangamati district.
According to local sources, at around 5 a.m. on
Sunday (November 9, 2025), a group of 30–35 army personnel from the Korengatoli
Army Camp went to a place known as Nua Dokan in Ward No. 1 of Bongloltoli
Union.
Upon arrival, the soldiers questioned Raj Mohan
Chakma (55)—a former union council member and local shopkeeper from Purba
Jarulchhari village—asking him:
“Where do the UPDF (United People’s Democratic
Front) members stay? Do they come to the shop?”
After that, the army conducted searches at the homes
of several villagers, including:
• Sadhan Chakma, Assistant Teacher at Jarulchhari
High School, son of Chiknya Chakma, resident of Purba Jarulchhari village
• Shanti Lal Chakma (45), son of late Natun Chandra
Chakma, resident of Buddheshankar Karbari Para
• Sudarshi Chakma (40), son of Gopal Chakma,
resident of Shishutuli village
• Kalatta Chakma, son of late Shubhankar Chakma,
resident of Mithu Karbari Para
• Kalai Chakma, son of Narad Chandra Chakma,
resident of Samar Jyoti Karbari Para
However, no illegal items were found during the
searches, and the soldiers returned to their camp afterward, sources said.
It is noteworthy that since November 3, the army has
conducted several rounds of house searches in the Bongoltoli area, targeting
homes of hill residents.
As a result of these repeated and allegedly
harassing searches, there is growing fear, anger, and dissatisfaction among
local villagers.
