The Bangladesh Army personnel in Sajek, under
Baghaichari Upazila of Rangamati district, forced the removal of a signboard
belonging to a Buddhist monastery.
According to reports, the incident occurred on
Wednesday morning (November 12, 2025) at Hajachara Buddhist Monastery in Ward
No. 5 of Sajek Union.
Sources said that around 8 a.m., a group of 13 army
personnel from the Gangaram Chaudogichara army camp entered the Hajachhara
Buddhist Monastery. They then called two devotees—Anil Chakma (45) and Rita
Chakma (35)—and ordered them to remove the monastery’s signboard. When they
refused, the soldiers allegedly pointed their guns at them and forced them to
take down the signboard.
Later, the army personnel went to Kojoi Chari
Government Primary School during class hours and called assistant teachers
Sadhan Chakma and Mihir Chakma. The on-duty army commander reportedly
instructed the teachers to inform the Baghaichari Zone authorities if they
faced any problems at the school.
After about half an hour, the soldiers again summoned
Anil Chakma and Rita Chakma to the bank of the Gangaram canal. There, the
soldiers allegedly forced Rita to pose for several photos using an Android
mobile phone.
According to local sources, after taking the photos,
they gave her 50 taka as “payment” and returned to their camp.
