Bengali Muslim settlers reportedly abducted a Jumma
villager from Rupaichari village, Ward No. 8, under Patachara Union of Ramgarh
upazila in Khagrachari district.
According to sources, around 12 noon on Sunday
(November 9, 2025), a group of 20–25 Bengali settlers from Khagrabil village
arrived in Rupaichari on motorcycles and CNG auto rickshaws. They allegedly
forcibly took away Nayan Chakma (also known as Durgapad, aged 35), son of
Ruppad Chakma, from his home.
Nayan Chakma is a shopkeeper by profession, running
a small tea shop in front of his house to earn his livelihood. It has been
reported that he was taken to Khagrabil village.
Meanwhile, around the same time, over 200 Bengali
settlers reportedly gathered in Khagrabil village. According to a local source,
they assembled after an army team arrived at the location.
Although the army personnel have since left, the
settlers remain gathered, and there are reports that additional army forces
from the Sindukchari zone may be deployed to Khagrabil.
In addition, a reliable source has informed that a
temporary army camp will be set up at Talgach Tila, near the Lalchari border
adjacent to Nangel Para, and that the camp will remain until the upcoming
election.
The abduction of the hill person and the settlers’
gathering have caused panic among the local indigenous villagers. They fear
that the settlers may attack them at any time.
It is worth mentioning that earlier, on the night of
October 24, settlers from Sonarkhil village went to the Lalchari rubber
plantation area and threatened to evict the hill residents of Rupaichari
village, spreading fear in the area.
