A
MINORITY Jumma woman has been reportedly raped by Didarul Islam, the president
of Lama Upazila Jubodal and panel chairman of Lama municipality, according to a
report published in the daily Prothom Alo today.
Didarul
allured her with promise of marriage and then raped her. She filed a case in
court against him under Women and Child Repression Prevention Act on Thursday
(4 October).
Locals
said Didarul had been trying to seduce her for a long time.
Her
father said, “On the night of 30 September, Didarul of Lama Pochchim Para
visited her home while she was alone and raped her.”
When
she screamed people from nearby rushed and rescued her, and sent Didarul to
police station, according to the First Information Report filed by the woman.
She
said, ‘As the police refused to register the case, I have been compelled to go
to the District and Sessions Judges Court’.
Lama
Upazila chairman Md. Ismail said he had bailed Didarul out after he had given a
written pledge that he would accept any decision that would be taken at a
social arbitration.
“Didarul
had a four-year relationship with that woman,” he added.
He
said as Didarul had failed to show up at the arbitration meeting, he advised
the victim to lodge a case.
