A POLICE man on Friday night attempted to rape a Jumma housewife in Ballyachari under Matiranga Upazila in Khagrachari district.
The incident took place at 8pm in a residence-cum-shop near the Kabutorchara passenger shed on Khagrachari-Chittagong road.
The shop belongs to her husband Mongpai Marma, originally a resident of Ballyachari village.
Police constable Bakul, from Guimara police station, entered the kitchen near the shop and tried to rape Uchainda Marma, 20, while her husband was away.
However, her brother-in-law Mong Hla Pru Marma sensed what might happen and rescued her.
Bakul then ran away from the scene. He was on duty patrolling the road when he made the rape attempt.
When the incident became known, the higher police officers of Guimara police station rushed to Mongpai Marma’s shop to settle the issue with him.
However, they refused to take disciplinary action against the offending policeman.
