A JUMMA woman
reportedly raped by an illegal Bengali settler has committed suicide in
Matiranga under Khagrachari district.
Namita Tripura, 20,
took her life Friday when the incident became public. She worked as a house
maid in the house of Milon Kanti Tripura, an ex-chairman of Matiranga Union, in
the village of Jagannath Mondir Para in
Matiranga.
According to sources,
on Friday night (27 September) Hafizur Islam Ripon, 26, son of Jainal Abedin of
Matobbor Para under Ward No. 6 of Matiranga Municipality, entered the
room of Namita Triprua and raped her.
Hafizur tried to flee,
but Milon Kanti Tripura and his wife caught him.
As the incident became
public, Namita, daughter of late Sokendra Tripura of Ram Dayal Karbari Para,
hanged herself in her room for shame.
The police have
arrested Hafizur Islam, but are refusing to register a case in this connection.
“I went to Matiranga
Thana this morning to file a case against Ripon, but the police would not
register it,” alleged Milon Kanti Tripura.
The police have sent
the dead body to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital for post mortem
examination.
