A 16-YEAR-OLD Tripura girl was
gang-raped in Lama Upazila in the Southern CHT district of Bandarban on
Tuesday.
William Tripura, president of
Lama Upazila branch of Bangladesh Tripura Kallyan Sangsad, filed a criminal
case against three Bengalis, including two employees of Lama Health Complex,
under section 9(3) of the Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act 2000
in this connection. (Case No. 07, dated 19/08/2015)
He accused three persons of
raping the girl who had been admitted to Lama Upazila Health Complex earlier on
17 August.
Of these three accused, Noor
Muhammad, 25, an employee of Lama Upazila Health Complex, was arrested by
police yesterday.
The other two suspects -- Shah
Alam, 50, another employee of the Health Complex, and Md. Selim, 28, a local
resident -- are still at large, but the police said they were trying to arrest
them too.
The CHT Women Association (Nari
Sangha) and Hill Women’s Federation have condemned the rape of the Tripura girl
and demanded that exemplary punishment be meted out to the culprits.
