THE army on Thursday
foiled a rally in Mahalchari organized by the Hill Students’ Council, better
known by its Bengali acronym PCP, a front organization of the United Peoples’
Democratic Front (UPDF).
The PCP had planned
the rally to demand implementation of its education-related five point demands
including the right to primary education in ethnic peoples’ languages in the
CHT.
Sources in the PCP
told chtnews.com that when the students were preparing to attend
the rally the army personnel held them back.
Later, the PCP held a
brief rally at Master Para and slammed the army for preventing its supporters
from attending the rally.
They also called for
the government to introduce primary education in ethnic peoples’ languages.
