A 19-YEARS-OLD Jumma girl has been subjected to an attempted rape in Naniachar, Rangamati district, according to sources.

The victim, an honours course student of Rangamati Govt College, was returning to her home in Nanakrum village under Burighat Union after seeing her friend off at a bus station in the morning today, Sunday, when a Bengali settler youth attacked her.

As she was alone on the way, Md. Maharaj, 20, son of Ali Hossain Munshi of Islampur village in Burighat grabbed her and tried to rape her.

However, the girl struggled hard to free herself and at one stage succeeded in freeing herself by hitting her would-be rapist with her umbrella, which she was carrying with her.

Maharaj, who was on his way to work at Nanakrum, failed to rape her and finally let her go. He went into hiding after the incident.
