RANGAMATI: Former Naniachai Upazila chairman Pritimoy Chakma was abducted on Thursday by army-backed JSS Reformist party and NMB vigilante group from his home in the village of Chairman-para in Naniachar.
He was taken in a boat towards Mubachari in adjacent Mahalchari Upazila, a stronghold of the terrorist groups.
‘A group of 10-12 armed men came at 7:30 p.m. and took him away at gun point,’ his family members told journalists.
In his early sixties, Pritimoy served as Naniachar Upazila chairman from 2010 – 2014.
The United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) in a statement has condemned the abduction of Pritimoy Chakma and demanded the government take prompt and effective steps to rescue him.
