Michael Chakma, an organizer of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), stated that there is no difference between the interim government and Sheikh Hasina’s or previous governments. He said, "We had hoped that under Professor Yunus’s government we would get justice. But after a year, we see that the current interim government is no different from Hasina’s regime or any of the ones before it in terms of repression and persecution."

He made these remarks on Tuesday afternoon while attending an event at the University of Chittagong as an inaugural speaker. The event was organized by the university branch of the Revolutionary Student Unity (Biplobi Chhatro Moitree) on the occasion of their fourth council. It took place in front of the university's Intellectual Square.

Michael Chakma said, "In 2010, over 400 houses were burned down in Sajek. We never got justice for that. The houses were burned right in front of Dipankar Talukder, who is now imprisoned. There were dead bodies before his eyes. To this day, we have not received justice. Now Hasina is gone, but those who have come to power after her are following in her footsteps."

Stating that the interim government does not serve the people, Michael Chakma added, "The farmers and workers who gave their lives a year ago have seen none of their rights fulfilled. Those who have come to power through the blood of ordinary people have not done so to serve — they are representatives of business interests and are in power to serve their own agenda."

Jashod Zakir, convener of the Revolutionary Student Unity's university branch, presided over the event. He said, "Our July mass uprising aimed to secure the fundamental rights of the people and ensure that no one could use oppression to suppress democratic rights. But we have only removed one regime. We must continue our struggle for true democratic transformation."

Nuzia Hasin, president of the Dhaka University branch of Revolutionary Student Unity, said, "The people of this country have never allowed fascism to survive. Politically conscious students have always played a role in resisting it."

Ramrasain Marma, joint convener of the university branch of Revolutionary Student Unity, moderated the event. Other speakers included Harun Or Rashid, general secretary of the Bhasani Parishad and former leader of Revolutionary Student Unity, and Yasin Arafat, joint convener of the student organization.
