A man named
Kongchainyo Marma (31) was reportedly shot dead by members of the Bangladesh
Army in the Shantinagar area of Khagrachari town.
The deceased
is being referred to as a leader of the so-called "Mog Party."
However, it has not been confirmed whether he was indeed a member of the group.
Tthe
deceased, Kongchainyo Marma, was the son of Angyojai Marma from Gariyachhari in
Sindukchhari Union, under Guimara Upazila of Khagrachari district.
His body has
been taken to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
According to
sources, on the morning of Friday (August 15, 2025), the army conducted an
operation in the Shantinagar area of Khagrachari town. During what is described
as a "gunfight," Kongchainyo Marma was killed. However, it remains
unclear how armed members of the "Mog Party", which is mainly based
in Bandarban district, ended up in a place like Shantinagar. The whole incident
is shrouded in mystery.
A few days
ago, social media reports had claimed that the army had brought a group of Mog
Party members into Khagrachari Sadar.
According to
another source, around 9 PM last night, supporters of the army were seen moving
in military vehicles in the Manikchhari sub-zone area. The source suspects that
Kongchainyo Marma might have been detained from somewhere in Manikchhari the
previous night and brought to Khagrachari.
It is worth
noting that in the past, there have been occasional reports of extortion,
abduction, and robbery under the name of the Mog Party, allegedly led by
Kongchainyo Marma, in the Manikchhari area—reportedly in coordination with
state intelligence agencies.
However, no
significant operations by the group had been observed in the area. A few
members of this group have previously been arrested by the army.
