The Bangladesh Army soldiers harassed villagers under the cover of
night in the Baghaihat area of Sajek, Baghaichari Upazila, Rangamati district.
According to reports, around midnight on Thursday (25 September
2025), a group of 50 army personnel from the Baghaihat Army Zone entered the
village of Baiba Chara, located to the left of Baghaihat. They woke villagers
from their sleep and subjected them to various forms of harassment under the
pretense of questioning.
Rabi Chakma (35), a resident of the village, told this reporter, “At
around 1:30 AM, army personnel woke me up. When I came out to the yard despite
being unwell, the soldiers surrounded me and asked me to take them to the
village shop. When I said I couldn’t go due to illness, they took my wife, Mili
Chakma (30), with them. She showed them the way to the shop and returned home
at 2:20 AM. I was extremely worried.”
Another villager, Sumoti Ranjan Chakma, said, “At around 2:31 AM,
army personnel came to our house, woke up my family members, and asked us to
take them to the shop. I guided them close to the shop and came back.”
Sunil Kanti Chakma, son of Nolen Joy Chakma, who lives near the
shop, said, “The army personnel came to our house and woke us up. Then they
asked whether anyone had come to the village recently and asked to be shown the
school (Baiba Chara Private Primary School). After showing them the school, the
soldiers stayed there. Later, at around 4:00 AM, they returned to their zone.”
