Babul
Chakma, torture victim of Santu Group |

Five individuals — all day laborers — have reportedly
been subjected to physical torture by members of the JSS (Santu Group) in the
Naraichari area of Dighinala upazila, Khagrachari district.
The incident took place on Wednesday, 24 September
2025, in a place called Soddengchara Dour, within the Naraichhari region.
The victims have been identified as:
1. Babul Chakma (42), son of Amrito Lal Chakma,
village: Babuchhara Noonchhari
2. Dhon Chakma (44), son of Nilborn Chakma
3. Luchchu Chakma, son of Shashi Ranjan Chakma
4. Mini Chakma (35), son of Royshing Chakma
5. Swapon Jyoti Chakma (32), son of Donggu Chakma
All five are residents of Noonchari village, Ward No.
5, Babuchara Union.
According to the victims, on the evening of 24
September (Wednesday) at around 7 PM, they set out from Naraichari with bundles
of tree raft. Around 10 PM, when they reached the area known as Soddengchara
Dour, they were stopped by Wind Chakma, an aide and collector under Ramesh
Chakma, who is associated with the armed wing of the Santu Group.
Following Wind Chakma’s orders, armed members of the
group allegedly subjected the five men to physical assault.
It has been reported that Ramesh Chakma and Chinu
Marma, commanders of the armed wing of Santu Larma, have since been calling one
of the victims and threatening him not to speak about the incident.

It is also worth noting that on 25 September, just a
day before the report was filed, two individuals (wood cutters) were abducted
by armed members of the Santu Group from the Naraichari area. They have not yet
been released.
At a time when people across the entire Chittagong
Hill Tracts are rising in protest against the rape of a teenage girl, the
abduction and assault of innocent villagers by the Santu Group raises serious
questions.
Many wonder: Why did these abductions take place at
this particular moment?
Is this an attempt — possibly orchestrated by
military-backed ruling forces — to undermine the ongoing anti-rape movement?
