On Friday, 19 September 2025, a team from the army
visited Mubachari Mouza in Ghagra Union of Kaukhali Upazila, Rangamati, to
search for a location to set up a new camp. They selected a hill and informed
locals of their intention to establish the camp there.
Once the news spread, a strong public opinion
quickly formed against the establishment of the camp in that area.
In response, on 21 September, several elders and
landowners from the area went to the Talukdar Para camp and formally expressed
their opposition. When the commander on duty asked them to submit a written
statement, the community representatives promptly prepared and submitted a memorandum
of objection.
In the memorandum, they stated that establishing an
army camp in the proposed location would cause significant disruption to the
local indigenous (Jumma) community. Specific concerns included:
"Women and girls would face difficulty moving
freely, collecting firewood, fetching water from springs or streams, working in
the jum (shifting cultivation) fields, and traveling at night. The safety,
dignity, and honor of our mothers and sisters would be at risk."
They also pointed out that residents currently
living in that area would be rendered landless if the camp were built there.
A total of 19 individuals, including local headmen,
public representatives, and landowners, visited the Talukdar Para camp to voice
their opposition to the new army camp.
Delegation members included:
1. Kaliratan Chakma – Headman, Mouza No. 97,

2. Bindu Kumar Chakma – Karbari (village chief),
Shuknachhari village
