Clashes have been ongoing for about two hours between
road blockade enforcers and illegal settlers in Khagrachari. Several blockade
supporters are reported to have been injured in the incident.
The Jumma students and general public are observing
this blockade in demand of the immediate arrest and punishment of all those
involved in the gang-rape of an 8th-grade student in Shinginala, Khagrachari
Sadar. They announced this blockade program yesterday from an anti-repression
grand rally.
While the blockade was observed peacefully from
Saturday morning (September 27, 2025), tensions arose at noon between the
blockade supporters and settlers in the areas of Khagrachari Technical School
and College and the Upazila Parishad (Sub-district Council). At one point, the
situation escalated into a conflict involving chases, counter-chases, and the
throwing of bricks, stones, and slingshots. Blockade supporters are also
alleging that the settlers fired shots from guns.
Tension remains high as of 2:20 PM when this report
was written.
However, the administration has not been seen taking
any steps to alleviate the tension. As a result, there is apprehension that a
more serious incident could occur at any time.
