Armed members of the JSS (Santu Group) tied up and
beat a 7th-grade schoolboy with a rope in the Machychara Koroi Bagan area of
Panchari upazila in Khagrachari district.
The victim is Paresh Chakma, son of Anal Chakma, from
Ratnasen Para (Dumbil). He is a 7th-grade student at Korolyachari High School.
According to reports, Paresh’s father had purchased
straw from a man in the Machychara area. On Sunday morning (16 November 2025)
around 11 a.m., Paresh went to collect the straw, accompanied by a Bengali
motorcycle driver. When they reached the Machychara Koroi Bagan area, they
encountered armed members of the Santu Group. The group allegedly captured
Paresh, tied him with a rope, and beat him. He was released around 2 p.m.
The victim, Paresh Chakma, said:
“When I went to collect the straw with a Bengali (the
motorcycle driver), the armed members of the Santu Group caught me, tied me
with a rope, and beat me. They took the motorcycle key from the driver and
separated me before assaulting me. They later released me at 2 p.m. and ordered
me not to tell anyone about the incident.”
It is noteworthy that for the past month, more than
150 army personnel have been stationed at several temporary camps in Panchari,
conducting operations. Although they claim to be searching for ‘armed
terrorists,’ residents say that armed members of the Santu Group continue to
stay and move openly in the Machychara and Dudukchara areas without any action
being taken against them.
