Two villagers were allegedly subjected to physical
torture by army personnel in the Tarabon Church area of Ward 5 under Chengi
Union No. 2 in Khagrachari’s Panchari Upazila, according to local reports.
Residents said that at around 2:00 p.m. on Monday (24
November 2025), a group of 35 soldiers entered the Tarabon Church area on foot.
Shortly afterward, another contingent arrived in six vehicles. The soldiers
reportedly restricted villagers' movement, effectively confining them to their
homes, and questioned anyone they encountered, causing widespread harassment.
Around 4:30 p.m., the army allegedly inflicted severe
physical abuse on two villagers.
The victims were identified as Nikel Chakma (33) and
Tatte Khulo Chakma (42).
The soldiers remained in the area for several hours
before leaving at approximately 6:30 p.m. and repositioning themselves in the
nearby Manipur area. Sources say nearly one hundred army personnel are
currently stationed there.
Earlier in the morning, an armed group belonging to
the JSS (Santu Larma faction) had reportedly attempted to carry out an attack
in the Korollyachari area, a short distance from Tarabon, but were confronted
by local residents. Locals believe that the army entered Tarabon in an effort
to extract the armed group after the confrontation.
